Global Call for Solidarity – Winter Emergency in Urabá Antioquia, Colombia
Urabá Antioquia, Colombia | Winter Season 2026
The Rotary Club of Urabá, in partnership with AGANAR, SUGANAR and COGANUR, issues an urgent international call to Rotary Clubs worldwide, Rotary Districts, The Rotary Foundation and partner organizations, to support humanitarian assistance and early recovery efforts for communities severely affected by the 2026 winter season in the Urabá Antioquia region of Colombia.
For more than six (6) consecutive days, the region has experienced intense and continuous rainfall, causing widespread flooding across the municipalities of Necoclí, San Pedro de Urabá, San Juan de Urabá and Arboletes, with an estimated 7,000 hectares flooded, impacting rural areas, agricultural land and vulnerable communities.
Critical impact – Villa Sonia Community (Necoclí)
One of the most affected areas is the Villa Sonia community, located in the municipality of Necoclí, where 170 families—approximately 1,000 people—are currently facing severe humanitarian conditions.
Families have lost their banana and rice crops, pastures with cattle, poultry and other productive assets, directly affecting their food security, income and livelihoods.
Priority humanitarian action lines
With the support of the international Rotary network, the following priority actions have been identified:
-
Economic and productive recovery for affected families (agricultural inputs, tools and livelihood restoration).
-
Community health brigades, providing basic medical care, disease prevention related to flooding and psychosocial support.
-
Donation of basic household items, including mattresses, blankets, kitchen utensils and essential goods.
-
Food assistance and supplies, addressing immediate needs of families who have lost everything.
Invitation to Rotary Clubs and partners worldwide
We warmly invite Rotary Clubs and humanitarian partners around the world to join this collective effort through:
-
Financial contributions
-
In-kind donations
-
Technical and logistical support
-
Humanitarian and early recovery project partnerships
Every contribution is a meaningful step toward restoring dignity, resilience and hope for these vulnerable communities.
Transparency and Rotary commitment
All actions are coordinated by the Rotary Club of Urabá, working alongside partner organizations, community leaders and local authorities, ensuring accountability, transparency and responsible use of resources, in line with Rotary values and ethical standards.
